Custom exhibition stands made from warehouse pallets!

To stand out from the crowd, sometimes you need to think outside of the box… or the pallet in this instance!  The Swiss furniture brand Vitra recently took Milan’s Salone del Mobile design fair by storm by creating a custom exhibition stand made out of wooden freight pallets!

The exhibition space at the Rho Fairground venue featured plinths made from pallets to create different height platforms.  Walls were created from stacked pallets  and pallets were even used to create a wire racking system to display other products.

The design was conceived to break the norms of designing exhibition stands and to create a new visual language for exhibitions. Colour was applied to the surface of certain pallets to denote different parts of the stand. Partially cast epoxy resin was also used to create a distinctive surface finish.

The wooden pallets were built to a standard size of one metre by one metre, providing a repeating module that formed the basis of the design.  This enabled different parts of the stand to be customised.  The stand even featured a fork lift truck to create a realistic warehouse scene!

The pieces on the display included Ronan and Erwan Bourourllec’s Belleville Chair and Table, the Polder Sofa and Compact by Hella Jongerius, and the Mariposa Sofa by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.

Recycled exhibition stand becomes an outdoor classroom

Llangewydd Junior School in Bridgend has recycled an old Urdd Eisteddfod exhibition stand for storytelling, art classes and science lessons.  With Astro turf ‘grass’ on the outside walls and fabric ‘trees’ inside, Llangewydd Junior School’s brand new outdoor classroom is the perfect place for learning about the environment!

Inside the new outdoor classroom there is a log circle.  The indoord ‘trees’ are covered with 350 leaves made out of pupils’ and teachers’ hand-prints hanging from the tree branches.

The Mayor of Bridgend County Borough officially opened the new classroom this week, and Head teacher Sue Davies said: “We are extremely excited about our new outdoor classroom, which is the first of its kind in Wales.

Recycled Green Exhibition Stand

The Mayor, Councillor Richard Young, said: “This new outdoor classroom has so much potential to enrich the learning experiences of pupils at Llangewydd Junior School. Members of the school’s eco-committee have been integral to the project and it was great to meet with them and see first-hand the enthusiasm and passion that they have for the environment and all things green.”

Recycling has become an extremely important issue for the exhibitions industry. Huge volumes of material are simply thrown away every show; carpets, graphics, leaflets as well as entire exhibition stands.

Our own range of modular exhibition stands are designed to be re-used multiple times. Configurable for any floor space or ceiling height, our solutions enable organisations to minimise both wastage and their own carbon footprint.

This is why we’re extremely pleased to hear about projects such as this.  Well done to Urdd Eisteddfod and Llangewydd Junior School for coming up with this fantastic idea!

If you have an old exhibition which you would like to see re-used for a similar project, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch with 200m2 Exhibitions if we can help in any way.

Northampton exhibition stands are now on sale!

The exhibition will include a large number of exhibition stands to raise awareness of the wealth of products and services offered by businesses in the county. Any business can book an exhibition stand space and they will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

As well as the exhibition (free to visit), there will also be free 60-minute seminars. Furthermore, there will be a networking lunch from 11.45am to 2.30pm. Those that attend will be encouraged to take a look around the exhibition prior to or after lunch.

Northamptonshire Chamber’s head of operations Tracey Branson said: “Our business exhibitions are always popular. They give companies in the county a great opportunity to raise their profile, and share and build upon their business knowledge. We want to give this opportunity to the Northants business community as a whole, which is why we have opened it up to non member companies too.

She continued, “With the exhibition itself, networking lunch and free business seminars, stand holders and visitors alike can benefit from the event. I encourage people to book a stand space or pop in on the day as there is a lot they will be able to take away from the event.”

Wireless Wi-Fi at London ExCeL!

The wireless technology company Ruckus has agreed a deal with ExCeL London to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to the venue. The agreement will provide Wi-Fi for up to 14,000 visitors at a time. The solution will cover the exhibition venue’s two halls which cover 100,000 sqm of exhibition stand space.

Roger Hockaday, Director of Marketing, EMEA at Ruckus Wireless said: “Delivering a great user experience in public venues and open spaces like Excel is a technical challenge. The complexity of planning in an environment that changes day-to-day, as exhibition stands are built up, used and torn down could easily overwhelm an ‘off-the-shelf’ network.”

Commenting on the decision, Excel’s Operations Director Brian Cole said: “What’s so impressive about the Ruckus deployment is that it not only provides better coverage than our previous deployments, but it does this with half the number of access points.”

wifi at London ExCeL

Brian continued “As far back as 2000, Excel recognised that Wi-Fi would be an important part of the visitor experience. With the new extension to the facility complete by 2011, the time came to reassess how best to deliver a great customer wireless experience. It had become clear that Wi-Fi for exhibitors and guests was becoming part of the core facilities critical to the delivery of a successful event, so in 2012 Excel started the planning for a new network.”

If you’re planning to exhibit at London ExCeL and want advice about using wireless connectivity to improve the visitor experience for your customers, we’d love to hear from you. 200m2 is one of the UK’s leading exhibition technology companies.
